When I was growing up in the South Bronx, I never saw people of color on television, I didn’t see Latinos anywhere but in our little community. We read Dick and Jane books, their life could not have been more different than mine, and I really felt invisible. I wondered what I was going to contribute to a society that didn’t see me.
