While Joe Pickett is part of a series, and this is #19, it is written as a stand-alone. This is my first C.J. Box and I am now a fan – and there are eighteen more in this series!!! Bonus! Wolf Pack sees Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett back at his job – the reader is not told why he has just been reinstated, but, I guess we will find that out when we read #18, “The Disappeared”. Now that he is back at work, a drone is flying over his turf and killing wildlife for pleasure. The drone belongs to a wealthy man, whose grandson is dating Joe’s daughter, Lucy. When Joe approaches the drone operator, he is asked by the FBI to back off. Why? Joe finds this man and his acquaintances are in the witness relocation program…and dangerous people are following them. By the time Joe figures things out, he is in the thick of things, along with his family and a female game warden(based on one of the few female game wardens in Wyoming today). It was a fast, thrilling read. Enjoy!
